Accidental death benefit - A form of insurance that provides payment if death of the insured results from an accident, subject to the conditions of the specific policy. Accidental death insurance is often combined with dismemberment insurance in a form called Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D).

Accident Date: (WCB) - Refers to either (a) the date the accident is deemed to have occurred or (b) the date of onset assigned to an occupational disease. The accident date is officially established by a Law Judge in a workers' compensation case.

Actinolite - A basic calcium, magnesium, iron silicate, one of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals forming the group called asbestos. Actinolite was never used in commercial products.

Accident, Notice and Causal Relationship (ANCR) - Minimal conditions that must be met before financial responsibility can be assigned to a claim for workers' compensation. Specifically, it must be established that: (1) a work-connected accident covered by the Workers' Compensation Law occurred;  (2) following the accident, the claimant notified his/her employer within the time limit required by the Workers' Compensation Law; and (3) a causal relationship exists between the accident and a resulting injury or disability.

Accidental bodily injury - A bodily injury which is not intentionally self inflicted.

Accidental direct physical loss (ADPL) - Property insurance that covers an insured against essentially all perils except those specifically excluded.

Accident and health insurance - Insurance under which benefits are payable in case of disease, accidental injury, or accidental death. Also called health insurance, personal health insurance, sickness and accident insurance.
